Importance of the CCSS

The movement to implement the Common Core State Standards into education is an extremely important move in education. According to the Common Core Standards Initiative (2015), the CCSS includes high standards that are consistent across states. They provide teachers, parents and students a clear set of expectations to ensure that all students have the knowledge necessary to succeed in college and their careers. Another important aspect of the CCSS is that it provides equal standards across states to makes sure that all students in the country are well prepared to succeed in life. It is also important for teachers in that they are able to collaborate with others throughout the country on best practice for instruction.

Career Ready
According to Allyn (2013), "A career-ready student in the 21st century will need to be better equipped to purposefully engage the world (p. 12)." Therefore, the Common Core State Standards are helping teachers create 21st centurty career ready students. The CCSS makes sure students are reading several perspectives and genres, writing in a variety of ways, becoming better speakers and listeners and becoming higher level thinkers.
